• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

1982 to 1988 Kickstarter Parts

1982 XC 430

Husqvarna
AA Class
So I see that in 1982 they revised the Kickstarter to go along with the revised engine. Did the Kickstarter Shaft Spring Pall etc change at all until the end in 1988 ? I have a 82 Clutch cover and I also have a NOS 4stroke cover. I know in 85 or so the cover got an extra bolt near the Kickstarter, but did anything else change ? Can I just transfer my 82 Parts into the newer cover. Since setting up the Spring etc is not the funest job I would rather not do it only to find that its not going to work with the parts I have.

I believe they interchange from the liquid cooled to the air cooled. I purchased a brand new LC Clutch cover made a block off plate for the water pump and installed it on my 83/250wr. The extra bolt hole remains empty.

That could get pretty involved depending on what etc means.
I think some of the earlier shafts were actually two pieces maybe they all are just kind of fused together. they should exchange.
Spring and pawl should be the same, of course you can run the part numbers.
Around 84 the gear on the back of the clutch changed so the intermediate gear and starter of that newer set must be treated as a whole.
The 87-88 got a larger clutch cover, larger in the clutch volume and the rubber stop and the kick lever and the part that attaches to the spline were modified a bit as there is less space for that stuff to fold up. 87-88 also got steel inserts at the shifter and kicker.

I seem to have the most problems with the socket that holds the pawl deforming larger and the hardened () surface on the inner bore of the later kick start gear not staying smooth.

Pawl, & spring are the same from 81-88 for all models. A watercooled clutch fits on a air cooled , can not confirm about the difference
in 87-89 ones, Fran mentioned. But I had a 82 250 with a w/c cover & a block off plate. I believe Andy sells a adapter, so you can
use the extra bolt too.

I know that the later models kick shaft had 2 o-rings and earlier models just had 1 o-ring.
There is also a "coarse" pitched gear and a "fine" pitched gear most 83 and newer were coarse pitched.

For whatever it is worth my donor bike is a 84 250 WR. It has a 41 Tooth Starter Gear which looks to be the Fine Tooth one.

Isn't there also a vent on the 2 stroke covers ???
Yes I have an oil stain on a pair of pants because I forgot about it before turning the bike upside down. The oil comes out of the four stroke one different when it goes upside down.

The four stroke vents out of one of the valve covers into a drain back bottle and then the frame.
