I got to thinking over Christmas just gone, I wonder if I have enough bits hiding around the shed / workshop to build another bike. There has been a 78 390WR roller in the shed for about 10 years.
    I bought myself a 50th birthday present a few years ago ...

The old frame was dug out of the shed ...

The picture quality on a few of these is not good. Comes of still having a prehistoric phone !

    I dug the wheels out.
The front one looked nearly new ......

Once I had removed all the spokes the wheel rim went "ping" and split at the joint !

The rear one looked better. But the horrible DID rim had to go.

All I wanted was the hubs. These were sent off to Rod Spry for blasting and lacing to a NOS pair of Akront rims. Handily stamped 6/77.

Next I got to looking at having the frame blasted and painted.

This is where Claude (Visiteur1948) came up trumps. He had a frame, with a few extra's for a little more than it would have cost to have my frame blasted, prepped and painted. The swing arm was exactly the same length as my 78 390WR six speed. The other bonus was that it is a "short tab" frame. Just what I needed for the Auto motor.

The seat had a small hole, but was perfectly usable as is. It will still get a new cover though. It looks like a black painted base, but is actually silver underneath.

The last two pictures are courtesy of Claude.

Grouty, what do you mean "short tab" and where is it used instead of a "long tab"?

The picture below is a standard "long tab" frame. This is the standard ML frame for the manual box engines. It can also house the short Auto motor (2077).

The picture below is the "short tab" frame. This only fits some 125 (I think) and the 2070 Auto motor.

Wheels are now rebuilt with a nice NOS pair of Akront rims. They are even date stamped 9/77 !

The motor is now off being powder coated. Should be back in a few days. I managed to blank off most openings with alloy plate. The rest will be filled with silicone plugs. No, there is nothing inside the casings.

    Also had the seat re-covered.

Nice new pair of foot pegs from Andy at HVA Factory.
As advised by the man himself, they would need a small mod to fit the ML frame. That mod took all of 15 minutes, which includes re-polishing. The mod would never be seen, but I thought it silly not to return them to the original immaculate finish.

I am sure someone with more knowledge of the pictures problem will be along soon to help you. I have trouble posting pictures, insofar as every time I add one, it puts it on the top. So to get a sequence in one post I have to do it in reverse order !

On the upside ..... I have just collected the engine from the painters ! ....... Stunning !!!
If I get time later (and it stops raining) I will take some pics.

Well pleased with the coating. It will "matt" down a bit with heat from the engine when running (we'll see !)

It will probably take me a while to strip and clean before any building starts. All gasket faces will have to be carefully cleaned of any over paint.
