I just purchased a '13 TE 449 and am looking at making it better for my style of riding which is dual sports. I'm an old, beat up, "A" Enduro rider.
I have a 30" inseam and am tippy toeing with the stock suspension.
What is the best way to lower it and while I'm into the suspension, what mods should be done to the forks and shock? Do they need revalved for dual sport riding?
What about Gold Valving the front forks, any value here? I will ride mostly woods and some road.
Also I want to lose the stock silencer due to weight but want to keep the bike at or below 94 db's for dual sporting. Any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance.

The bikes are definitely tall. I'm 5'10" and I can't flat foot on it, but I get enough foot on the ground to be stable. On uneven ground, I usually side saddle it a bit. I've just gotten used to it, and the suspension has dropped a bit, more I've ridden. As for the silencers, I really like the FMF Power Core 4 slip-on so far and the optional quiet insert. Truthfully, I've not noticed much of decibel change with the FMF with the quiet insert. Guys I ride with said they can't tell much difference from the stock can either. I will measure it and give you a reading.

I spoke with my dealer (Keytime Motorsports) and he suggested lowering it 1-1/2 inches of seat height by going into the shock internals and the forks as well.
Anyone else lower one of these?

The 2011 I have was even taller. The frame was changed from 12 on and the shock was shortened 10mm. I'm 6'1" and I could just get the balls of my feet down.

I recently had my shock shortened by ZipTy when I dropped everything off for a revalve and service. They aren't local to you but have extensive experience with these bikes and a quick call might give you an idea of what's practical vs. compromising performance just to lower it.

On the silencer, the FMF is ok, but won't be "legal" if measured, even with the insert. I failed a check at a group ride, so, now I have to install my de-catted stocker, pass sound check, the swap the fmf back on for riding. I'd look for another option.

The akrapovic that came stock on the TXC is an excellent option if you can find one.

Thanks for the replies. Is the stock Akrapovic a catatylic converter type?

No, just a spark arrestor. Sounds nice and isn't restrictive compared to the stock Fiat muffler.

Finally got around to measuring mine. Pretty much inline with what you would think. 91 - 93 decibels idling, and 105 - 107 rev'd. Yeah, bit high for sure. I'm going to decat my stock muffler, just incase I run into problems somewhere down the line.

Dual sports up here in WI require 94 db or less.
I found a TXC 449 muffler that I'm going to start with. I'll post more as the bike progresses.

Yep, 94 or less. They barely pass me with the de-catted stocker.

Just fair warning, on a recent tech I think I ran 94/96 idle and 99-101 revved. That's a tough one to reach.

You could build an insert to choke it down. I think I would look into using a butterfly valve system for exhaust.
