  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

09 TE310 - motor locked up

My 09 TE310 locked up on me last weekend. I was just putting along and I hear a pop and then my bike stops running. Hit the start button and just a single thud. OK, pull the kick starter out and try to kick it over....nothing, it won't budge.

Put her in neutral and I'm lucky enough that I'm able to let gravity get me down to the power-line road. My buddies take off to get a truck and I took a nice nap for about an hour and a half. I had nightmares of $1500 repair bills

followed by dreams of a 2013 350exc

which were followed immediately by nightmares of telling my wife I'll need to drop 9K on a new scooter.

This past Saturday was the autopsy. Pulled the clutch cover and all looks good. Pulled the clutch and basket and all looks good but still locked up. Pull the sprag clutch gear and it seem OK and looks good. With the sprag gear off everything freed up. Put the sprag back on and everything everything still working properly. Re-assemble and the bike fires right up.

So now the big mind fock is what the hell was wrong? Is it good to go? Will it happen again? Will I be by myself in the bottom of a canyon as the sun sets when it locks up again?

Thoughts?

Oddly enough..I had the same issue..Except on a 1994 GSXR1100 last week! I ran through the same steps except I removed the starter assembly as well. Bike fired right up after that as well. Myself, and my mechanic who I had do another "look through" thinks it was either, something got misaligned and thankfully I was stopped so no heavy forces got applied so everything once loosen up fixed it's self, or it was the starter getting jammed, same situation. It was VERY odd, so I completely understand..haha
