Improved Fuel Filler Cap

Discussion in '610/630' started by NothingClever, Apr 12, 2009.

  1. Although the stock fuel cap on my 610 is kinda neato, I didn't like having to fiddle with a key or having to move my itty-bitty Enduro tankbag out of the way.

Enter Husky Speed. Kinda pricey at $100 but it definitely answers the mail.

    What's in the bag.....hardware and spare o-rings.

Installed....well, OK, without the cap but you can see it in the first shot. Much more user friendly, IMO.

I find the P321 fuel caps a little hard to use. With a full tank, it does seem to leak during riding even when tightened fully.
  4. OK, mine doesn't leak (tested for several days now) AND it's also tremendously less blingarrific than the Ferracci one. I'm good.....

I received an excellent suggestion to move this thread to the 610 section.

    common topics -> 610, leaving a 1 month re-direct.

  7. HuskySpeed makes these for all Huskies. That's why I put it in 'Common Topics'.

It would have been good to state that earlier...

Let me get back to this later. Sorry for the confusion.
  9. No, no, no.....you're right. I just checked the website and they're just for 610s so the move was a good one.

Now I'M sorry for the confusion.

I'm sorry that I made you sorry.

Are you sorry that I'm sorry that I made you sorry?

I'm really sorry for causing all this sorrow.

    Another option soon......

John will have his version ready to go pretty soon. I have test fitted his prototype on my bike. In the pics is a plastic CNC prototype with a finished cap. I like the idea of the threads being female on the cap and male on the neck for 2 reasons. One, if you drop the cap on the pavement while refueling there is no chance of dinging up the threads. Two, there is no chance of messing the threads with the fuel nozzle.

Two machined aluminum parts, hardware and o-rings seem like a fine deal to me. Stuff costs a lot to build. Nice looking and works.

Boatman has some really good points on the reversed threads though.

I might have to get one of these. I like the slick look of the sock unit but man I hate making sure I have the key every time I leave the house.

Thanks for the info guys

John is also thinking about some sort of lightweight insert for the empty hole left after the conversion.

One of my biggest disappoints with the 610 is the key thing. I can't belive it would have cost that much to have the ignition and the cap use the same key.

Those caps are very attractive. I keep thinking that one of these months a big tank will be available. So I hate to put the money out if the new tanks take a different cap.
  17. For the carb'd 610? There's a big tank out already. www.imsproducts.com

Why vent the cap if the tank is vented?

My thoughts exactly! I personally like the first one for $100. Looks nice and clean, flows with the bike. I like the reverse thread logic, but not enough to get it over the HuskySpeed.
